Tour The Gaol

Food Fight!

6

The mess hall was built in the 1980's. There were darts boards, telephones and dining room facilities here. Prisoners were restricted to this area and the games yard between 4:30 PM and bed time. The latest you could go to bed was 8:45 PM. Once "in bed," a prisoner was locked in his/her cell until the next morning.
The large kitchen produced all the meals. At times, if they could cook, men serving longer gaol terms were transferred here to be the "cook". Life for the cook was a little easier. There were plenty of people to help in the preparation and serving the thirty odd prisoners 3 meals a day. His would have been in a more comfortable long term cell.
